WORLD WAR Z TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

WORLD WAR Z

Genre/hybrid genre: Action/Thriller/Post Apocalyptic, this movie is less fragmented than Mad Max although both are absed upon creepy thoughts. The Movie itself is very clever as it is all about a virus that is very contagious, and if you catch the virus you become a hybrid zombie with no sense of pain or fear that moves like an animal with great speed. The movie itself makes the viewer jump as there are a lot of jump scares.Narrative: Non Linear, Lots of different news scenes showing the virus spreading and effecting everybody.

Location: Lots of different locations to show that the virus has spread world wide. All of the scenes are shot in different countries as it shows Brad Pitt escaping and fighting the virus with his family. Some of the main locations are London, Scotland, America, The UAE etc...
 UAE

 Manchester

Characters:- The Main characters are Brad Pitt and his family who are travelling all around the world to try to escape from the killer virus, as you can see the virus turns everybody else into hybrid mutated zombies.

Voice Over: There are the news reporters voicing over the opening scene explaining to the audience that the virus is spreading rapidly

Pacing: The pacing in the opening credits are very smooth and have interesting in focus triangles moving around the screen to interest the viewer.

On-screen graphics/captions: The graphics are very clever as they only show little section of the frame in focus through triangles that interest the viewer, the cuts are smooth and almost unnoticeable. Editing & post production (can include special effects): smooth cuts and different scenes of the virus and infected people but that is all out of focus but a little in focus triangle showing small segments of the scene in focus drawing the viewers attention to the fact that the virus is unclear.

Music and other sound effects: thousand effects are like delayed and fragmented bass, and the news reporter talking and very loud disturbing zombie sounds.

Camerawork: The camera movement is very frantic to keep up with the idea of a crazy frantic scene.

MAD MAX TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

MAD MAX TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

The Genre/hybrid genre: is Action/Thriller/Post Apocalyptic, the overall movie is very strange to watch due to the fact that the entire concept of the movie is a strange and creepy thought. The opening scene its self is all about match on action as it shows `mad `max driving, crashing, being caught, tortured and almost escaping very fluently due to continuos editing. The Narrative: Its non linear, its very broken and fragmented throughout the movie to reflect on the broken and fragmented idea behind the movie.

The Location of the movie is mainly shot in the desert. The opening scene shows this very well and the first scene you see is mad max driving away from the bandits in his car and unfortunately getting caught. The vechiles mailny consist of Dirt Bikes, Quadbikes and customized off-road cars. Such as a Beetle

Characters: Mad Max is the lead character and represents goodness and freedom although he rarely speaks but the rest of the characters are bald albino suicidal thugs, and are ordered by a lead albino fat thug with hair.

Voice Over: Mad Max is explaining his situation in an low raspy voice almost creepy.

Pacing: The pace is very fast to enhance the effect of fast moving which is linked to the cars.

On-screen graphics/captions: The font is metal to represent the cars and has blood on it to represent danger, death and even murder. The text first says Mad Max after a dramatic impact but maybe 3 seconds later the text goes up in flames and Fury Road appears as Molten Metal infant of the text.

Editing & post production (can include special effects): Fast cuts are used throughout the movie to create a fast paced movie which links the cars.

Music and other sound effects: Deep Bass to add drama and build ups throughout the movie

Camerawork: The camera moves very fast to keep up with the cars, loads of long shots to show the entire chase scene, the camera is on a crane/drone to show arial shots of the cars.

Preliminary Task Evaluation

Evaluation

Overall, the preliminary task went well due to the fact that we had done a thorough plan/storyboard before actually shooting the film. We used a mixture of different shots and angles that all came together when edited. We used a lot more props than the other group to add to the funny, silly movie. We used a lot of different sound effects to add to the silly movie.

We used over the shoulder shot,

180 degree rule

Match on Action

and many more shots, overall after editing and making the entire sequence run smoothly "The Gossip" was a very silly, funny short clip showing all of the essential movie camera shots and angles.

Film Techniques

Film Techniques

Match on ActionCutting on action or matching on action refers to film editing and video editing techniques where the editor cuts from one shot to another view that matches the first shot's action.

Example of Match on Action

Example of Match on Action

180 degree ruleThe 180 degree rule, camera position and eyeline. When you film a scene using separate shots, it's important that people understand where everything in the scene is. The 180 degree rule will help you do this. Shot 1: Long shot. Imagine you're looking at a scene from the side.

Shot Reverse Shot-Shot reverse shot is a film technique where one character is shown looking at another character, and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.

Introduction

Introduction

Hello my name is Jack Murphy, My chosen coursework task is a Film Opening for my preliminary task I chose to do a Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. For my Main Task I have chosen to do a 2 minute film opening. Our initial idea is to do a film opening similar to the film Mad Max Fury Road. We are filming in the desert to almost replicate the Mad Max opening scene and location. We are going to rent quads, motorbikes and a buggy to replicate yet again the off road cars used in the movie.

My Group Members are Pablo, Mariam, Nikita and Me.
My Group Members roles were...

Pablo- Actor

Nikita- Actor/Editor

Me- Camera Man/Actor

Mariam-Camera Operator
